Our school and community are amazing places thanks to those who contribute in so many ways to make our children's lives better. Every year, at the Founders Day celebration, PTA recognizes individuals who have made an exceptional effort to improve our children's educational experience.
Presenting the 2018 Founders Day Award Recipients:
For the past several years, Amber has served as PCY PTA President, VP Membership, Parliamentarian, and Play 4 Paradise Co-Chair. She has also chaired or assisted with numerous PCY events, including Medieval / Country Fair, Holiday Luncheon, Ice Cream Social, Back to School Lunch, Staff Appreciation Week, and Founders Day. Amber has spent many volunteer hours as a Room Rep, classroom volunteer, Junior Great Books leader, and as a New Family Mentor. In addition, she has proudly served as a Girl Scout leader for nine years and is excited for her 16 scouts to earn their Silver Awards this spring. Amber and her daughter are also members of National Charity League (Glendale Chapter).
Amber is married to Brett (15 years), and they have three children: a daughter at LCHS 7/8 and two sons at PCY. On top of her outstanding volunteer work, she is also a corporate lawyer at Warner Bros. In her free time, she enjoys water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, reading, slow days at the lake, and laughing with friends.
Linda Hada began volunteering at PCY in 1995, and she remained a volunteer until her youngest son moved on to junior high. In 1998, she started as an aide in special education, which she continues to do at PCY still today. For 10 years, Linda served as a Junior Great Books volunteer, and she also acted as attendance clerk at LCE for a few years.
Linda has been married for 30 years, and all three of her sons are now grown and have added two grandchildren to their family. She enjoys reading, watching turn-of-the-century movies, and traveling. She's hoping to do more of these things in the future.
Rob Hajek is a huge asset to PCY. He has taught 5th grade for the past 11 years but has made the trip to Valley Forge 12 times. Previously, he taught 4th grade for nine years (NINE Brig Pilgrim trips!). Rob has also chaperoned the 6th grade field trip (Pali Mountain & Wrightwood) three times. He even attended a Catalina trip in a storm. He has served as Grade Level Representative, Team Leader, LCTA Representative, and he has spearheaded the Student Council and Recycling Program. For the past 18 years, Rob has taught summer school with the Assistance League.
Rob met his wife, Julie, at a Clippers game in 2001 and married in 2012. He resides in Monrovia and, as an avid Clippers fan, has remained a season ticket holder since 2001.
For the past several years, Heather Lhotka has generously taken on so many volunteer duties at PCY, including Classroom Volunteer, Library volunteer, Room Rep, Junior Great Books volunteer, Art Docent, creating and running the PCY Cougar Cart, PCY PTA website, VP Communications, teacher for after-school Tinkering class, Family Reading Night co-chair, School Site Liaison for school bond committee, New Family Mentor, and parent member of the new ELA material adoption committee, as well as helping out with numerous other PCY events and activities. In addition, Heather serves as Cub Scouts Den Leader for each of her sons' dens and is part of the Cub Scouts Leadership Team, organizing many activities, service projects, and outings.
Heather and her husband Greg have been married for 19 years and have two sons at PCY. Greg travels extensively for work, and Heather enjoys joining his travels with the kids, helping others plan their own travel adventures, reading, participating in TWO book clubs, camping with family, sewing, and practicing calligraphy and other crafty pursuits.
It is hard to think of a volunteer job at PCY that Sheridan Sanders has NOT done. For several years in a row, she has volunteered as Room Rep, Library volunteer, Cake Walk chair at the Country Fair, Book Fair chair, Box Tops chair, Lost & Found (including laundering!) and Bulletin Boards. In addition, Sheridan has served three years as the La Canada Girl Scouts Service Unit Cookie Chair and has chaired the PCY Cub Scouts Pack 519 Popcorn Fundraiser.
Sheridan is married to Mark Sanders and has two children at PCY. She enjoys walking, reading, and traveling to new places in the U.S., as well as visiting home in Australia.
This is Jenni Swanson’s last year at PCY, and she will be truly missed. In addition to helping out in many classroom volunteer roles and chaperoning countless field trips, Jenni has volunteered for PCY Spirit Wear, Bulletin Boards, Spirit Rally (sound system & beach balls), Room Rep, Teacher Appreciation Week, and 6th Grade Play. PCY has benefited multiple times from her creative talents, most recently with her handmade props for “Willy Wonka, Jr.”
Jenni and her husband Mike have two boys (8th grade and 6th grade). She loves crafting and spending time with her family and pets.

Paradise Canyon Elementary would not be the amazing school it is today without our synergistic community of families and staff members. The PCY PTA aims to nurture that relationship by positively impacting the lives of PCY students though program offerings and material support.
